Anitra Coulter Blunt

Music Specialist, Concert Artist, Voice Artist, Instructor

 

Anitra is praised for her powerful, yet angelic and golden operatic tone, as well as for her pure, silken vocal stylings in jazz and contemporary genres. Anitra specializes in the performance and instruction of classical, operatic, jazz music, and musical theatre. She is also well-known as an artist who brings the epic and captivating genre of Negro spirituals to life with breathtaking energy and heart. 

 

Anitra Coulter Blunt is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, with a Master’s degree in Music/Voice Performance and Pedagogy, with an Emphasis on Therapy. Anitra has performed a variety of character roles, including Madame Goldnertrille in Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor, Lucy in Menotti's The Telephone, Die Konigen der Nacht in Mozart’s Magic Flute, and Cinderella's Mother/ The Voice of Rapunzel in Sondheim's Into the Woods. Before earning her degree from The University of Texas, Anitra graduated from Arts Magnet High School in Dallas, Texas, where she studied visual art, and began her training as a soprano vocalist.

 

In addition to performing classical and contemporary genres, Anitra enjoys performing and composing children’s music and music of diverse cultures. Her musical expertise encompasses performance, vocal technique, musical analysis, theory, and principle applications of classical music. After receiving her first degree, she began teaching, coaching and performing for organizations and schools throughout Austin. She has been teaching privately for twelve years, and has had the delightful privilege of teaching privately for Leander ISD, and music in the classroom for grades K-12 at Victory Christian Center School. Anitra was afforded the opportunity to build the ground floor as Vocal Arts Director and Kindermusik © Director for Rising Stars Creative Arts Center. In 2004 she became certified as a Kindermusik © Educator. Development of the young child and learning tools for the child with special needs have been areas of deep interest for several years. As a therapist, Anitra has taught and developed programs and specialized learning plans for many individuals with exceptional needs and those who have experienced trauma. 
 
Anitra is aspiring to produce a whole-child children’s show, the home-base of which will be Heartsong Family Enrichment Center, a therapeutic ranch providing arts enrichment and horseback riding therapy. When she is not teaching and performing, Anitra enjoys recording in the studio, acting and voice work, including character voices, commercial singing, and advertising. She also enjoys storytelling and inspiring audiences of all ages through written prose. Most recently, Ms. Coulter Blunt was co-writer for an inspiring film called “Southern Girls”. Future endeavors include, authoring books for children and families, as well as books focused on total-wellness. Anitra also desires to be an advocate for children with exceptional needs, orphans, and low-income families by offering affordable arts and literary enrichment, giving recitals that raise funds for those families and individuals, and launching programs that empower, champion, and care for them.
